Class of 2022 HMS Graduation
HMS and the Class of 2022 were honored to invite Asma Sheikh, a proud Deaf female scientist and first-generation college student from Pakistan, to be the graduation keynote speaker. Asma graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) with a BS in biomedical science and a minor in chemistry. After discovering a new love in chemistry, she enjoyed conducting research for two years in Dr. Goudreau’s research group in RIT. While at RIT, she was also a resident advisor and student leader on campus, breaking barriers – against odds. She is currently working as a research assistant at Harvard Medical school to identify potential gene targets for the development of antiviral therapeutics for HPV-associated cancers. Her passion is to become a Deaf medicinal chemist and trailblazer for other young Deaf students to get involved with STEM, leading the way and showing young Deaf women that they can do anything and help make a difference in the Deaf community.
