Preparedness
There are many utilities and systems necessary to run the school building. A loss of any system noted below may require action by you.
- Electrical power outage—the lights go out.
- Loss of water pressure impacting drinking water, toilets, and food preparation
- Loss of heating or cooling system
- Interruption of telephone or data communications
- Identify persons with disabilities who may need special assistance.
- Check emergency lights periodically to ensure they are unobstructed and “ready” lights are on.
POWER OUTAGE OR UTILITY FAILURE PROCEDURES
Listen Carefully For Instructions
If The Power Goes Out:
- The School Leader and others will attempt to assess the scope and expected duration of the outage.
- The School Leader will provide information to you via whatever communications system is available. Remain in your classroom. Do not move around the building unnecessarily.
- Do not use elevators.
- Check restrooms, stairwells, and corridors in proximity to your classroom to determine if anyone needs assistance and to direct them to their classroom.
- Contact the main office if you have any problems or special circumstances.
- If emergency lights in your area are out, notify the Main Office.
If There Is Loss Of Another Utility System:
- Contact the Main Office if there is an immediate problem or special circumstances.
- Otherwise, the School Leader will provide information to you as the situation warrants and as information becomes available.
- Do not contact the Main Office unnecessarily.
