    Senior Advisor of Specialized Services

    Christine brings her extensive leadership and special education experience in urban school districts to Boston Public Schools. Prior to joining BPS, she served as Director of Special Education, Nursing, and Health Services for Somerville Public Schools where she led the development and coordination of services to meet the needs of all students. While working collaboratively with educators, parents, and community members across the schools, she instituted systems to assure state compliance resulting in moving SPS from the DESE Accountability level of In Need of Technical Assistance to No identified or Flagged areas of concern in all indicators. She also led the district to reduce participation in MCAS Alt’s from 4.6% to 1.6% during her tenure and developed a Special Education Procedure Manual and on-going professional development to ensure compliance across the district. Somerville Public Schools Procedure Manual was selected by the MA New Special Education Directors Leadership Institute as the exemplar procedure manual in special education since the fall of 2021.

    Christine also developed a model that includes instructional professional development, coaching, and data driven decision making for all district initiatives to assure fidelity. She has worked extensively with the Early Childhood team and is a member of the committee supporting the work of the CPPI Grant whose focus is ongoing collaboration and support between the district, EEC licensed Programs, and key community stakeholders in Somerville. She was also a member of the City of Somerville Children’s Cabinet which provides a range of programs across the city to provide wraparound services to students and families, and she led the development and coordination of school nursing and health services and support in Somerville Public Schools.
    She is also a member of the MA Urban Special Education Directors Executive Board.

    Prior to becoming the Director of Special Education in Somerville, Christine served as the Teacher in Charge of Office of Student Services for high school, alternative high school, and middle schools. She also served as a Behavior Specialist for Cambridge Public Schools Grades 5-12, a school adjustment teacher grades 3-7 and district Crisis Prevention Instructor and was the Summer Program Coordinator for CASE Collaborative for many years. She started her career as a Special Education Teacher at Shore Education Collaborative.

    Christine holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a minor in Communication Disorders/Language from the University of MA Amherst, a Master’s in Education and CAGS in Education Administration from the University of MA Boston, and certifications in elementary education, special education, and special education administration.
